Hello everyone,

My name is Sterling and my wife has LAM. Diagnosed in Feb2007 with a bit of history of problem breathing and fatigued. Biopsy and CT done to confirm. Currently on O2 2.5 LPM.

At times she coughs so much that she brings up her dinner. It is very hard on her. Anyone know what exactly causes the cough and what can be done to subdue it.

Sterling...............

Wish I had the answer but has she been given a cough suppressant? My favorite is an "old-time" remedy called Tessalon Pearls. It always seems to work for me. It is a prescription.  I do sometimes cough so much when I've swallowed something & it went into my airway instead of my esophagus. Hope this helps!!

Thank you Marlahamlin. Grace has tried that route and it had some measure of success. Through some net working we found and tried the following puffer.

Long acting bronchodilator called Serevent.  It is not a rescue medication such as Ventolin, but is long acting (take once in AM and once in PM).  Flovent as well as it is an inhaled steroid. It seems these two items diminished the cough greatly.

I use to take Flovent and Serevent. Right now I'm taking Advair which is a combination of two medicines. It also goes by the brand name of seroflo depending where you are. Besides a cough suppressant, if she is feeling congested then mucinex may help to break it up and relieve her of her coughing.
