Planned Giving

Create a lasting legacy that will help shape the future of The LAM Foundation and improve the lives of women with LAM by joining the Breath of Hope Legacy Society.
Planned Giving simply means that you are planning to give a gift in the future. The most common planned gift is the ‘bequest', which means remembering The LAM Foundation in your will. Would you, your family, or friends consider naming The LAM Foundation as the recipient of a planned estate gift? Other forms of planned giving are the Charitable Remainder Trust and the Charitable Gift Annuity.

Gifts of Stock or Assets
Why should I give a stock gift instead of writing a check to The LAM Foundation?
A gift of stock may be more tax-wise than an equivalent cash gift. If you've made a good investment and own a stock that has grown in value and appreciated substantially beyond the original investment, any growth above the original cost is considered a "capital gain." That capital gain is subject to a federal capital gains tax of up to 15% plus state capital gains tax where applicable. By giving appreciated securities that have been held at least a year and one day to The LAM Foundation, you can avoid the capital gains tax and receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift.
Please contact your tax advisor before initiating any transfer to be sure you fully understand the tax benefits of making your gift of stock to The LAM Foundation.
What steps do I take to give stock to The LAM Foundation?
First, contact The LAM Foundation to let us know that you intend to make a gift of stock. You may fax this information to us at 513.777.4109, or email it to the Development Office at srichard@thelamfoundation.org.
Then, ask your broker to make an electronic transfer of the shares to The LAM Foundation stock contribution account by contacting:

Because each mutual fund company has their own unique procedures, please contact Kathleen Eggers at Smith Barney by phone to discuss a mutual fund transfer.
Once the stock is transferred, we will receive notification of the transfer and a receipt will be sent to you. The effective contribution date for tax purposes is the date the shares are placed into our account, and the value of your gift is the stock price on that date. Our receipt will confirm the date, the name of the stock, and the number of shares gifted. It is your responsibility to determine the value of the shares on that date for tax reporting purposes.

Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)

Are you a Federal employee? Do you have a family member, friend or neighbor who works at a Federal agency? The LAM Foundation is eligible for inclusion on the National Part of the Combined Federal Campaign Charity List. The CFC code that Federal employees should use to designate their contributions to The LAM Foundation is 10886. Please share this information with every Federal employee you know.

United Way Campaign
Many companies encourage their employees to give to charities through their local United Way Campaign. Even though The LAM Foundation may not be listed as a designated organization for your United Way, most Campaigns will allow you to write in The LAM Foundation on the “donor designated” portion of your United Way donation form. Ask your Human Resource representative or call your local United Way office for more information.
Matching Gifts
Matching Gift programs are a great way to increase the impact of your gift to The LAM Foundation. Many companies have matching gift programs that match your contribution. Every $1 you give can become $2 for the Foundation! Check with your Human Resources department for information on this program. Typically there is a form that you send to the Foundation in order to confirm your gift. Once you make your donation, send us the form and we’ll handle everything else. Donate a Used Car
The LAM Foundation is endorsing the use of Cars4Charities to process the donation of cars to The LAM Foundation. The Foundation will receive a minimum of 65% of the sale price of the vehicle. Everything is handled by Cars4Charities involved in the donation process. This includes: processing vehicle titles; arranging for the pickup and sale of donated vehicles; providing donors with the necessary forms to claim the tax deduction; and providing the IRS with the forms needed to verify the donation. This is done in compliance with all of the rules and regulations of each state and the federal government. To learn more, please visit Cars4Charities.org.
In-Kind Gifts
Donating in-kind gifts is another great way to support The LAM Foundation. An in-kind gift can help generate revenue streams through silent auctions, raffles, and services provided. You can also help the Foundation spare expenses by donating office equipment that may be needed, such as printers, laptops, etc. Some of the types of services that are always in demand by the Foundation are graphic designers for brochures and appeals, experienced grant writers, and website reviewers. Consider donating to the silent auction at the Breath of Hope Gala. We can use most items or services that are national and can travel well. Gift certificates, services, gift baskets, jewelry, and even timeshares or vacation homes have been donated in the past. We can use just about anything! To donate an item to the silent auction, please contact Holly Gersbacher at hgersbacher@thelamfoundation.org.
