The LAM Foundation 2008 International Research Conference

 

LAM Foundation International Research Conferences advance LAM research, improve LAM clinical practices, and provide education, support, and inspiration to patients, physicians, and investigators alike. The broad objectives for the 2008 Conference are: 1) to review research developments in LAM, 2) to attract new investigators to LAM research, 3) to identify promising new LAM research directions, and 4) to attempt to reach consensus on difficult clinical issues. The 2008 LAM Research Conference will help to sustain the momentum that has brought the LAM field from obscurity to trials based on molecular targets.

The advances in our understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of the disease have been remarkable, and we are aligned to continue to address this problem in an aggressive, cooperative, and intelligent manner. The 2008 Conference will chart the course for new research directions in LAM, assist the clinical community in arriving at consensus on the optimal management of LAM, and provide precious hope to those affected by the disease.

The 2008 LAM Conference will be held at the Westin in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. The Westin overlooks historic Fountain Square and is a leisurely stroll away from the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Great American Ball Park, the Aronoff Center for the Performing Arts, and the Contemporary Arts Center.

The LAM Foundation 2007 International Research Conference
Friday, April 20 - Sunday, April 22, 2007
The Hilton Netherlands, Downtown Cincinnati

We'd like to thank those of you who were able to join us for the 2007 LAM Research Conference! Cosponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) since 1998, the International Research Conference included a basic/clinical science conference, a concurrent patient/family conference. Researchers from diverse disciplines came together to brainstorm about new directions in LAM research, and women with LAM and their families learned more about LAM and shared in the camaraderie. LAM patients enjoyed roundtable discussions with each other as well as discussions with doctors of their choice.  Patient sessions included Facing Anxiety and Depression, the MILES Treatment Trial, LAM Myths, Personal Journeys with LAM, The Latest on Oxygen, Stages of LAM, What's New in the World of Lung Transplantation, Coping with a Pneumothorax, a harmonica session, and Romance and LAM. Friday night brought all attendees together for the Awards Banquet that honored our new scientists and the women who raised the money to fund them. LAMbassadors from 10 different countries met on Friday morning to kick off The LAM Foundation Worldwide LAM Patient Coalition and were later presented with an award.
