Intimacy Tips
It is difficult to be intimate with your partner when you feel tired and anxious. Perhaps you have developed poor body image or low self esteem because of your failing lungs. You may feel as though your life has spun out of control or you may be depressed because you can no longer do the things you once enjoyed. You are not alone. Many women living with lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) face trouble with intimacy, especially in later stages of the disease.Talking openly with your partner about your feelings can be helpful. Be sure to let him or her know how to best support you. And, most importantly, don't be afraid to talk about what gives you pleasure or discomfort. Your partner may also worry about hurting you. You may want to explore new ways to be intimate, or just focus on cuddling for now.
The LAM Foundation provides these tips to help you cope with LAM, while also staying intimate with your partner. These might include information to help you feel comfortable in your own body, ways to enhance your sexual activity, how body changes may impact your sexual health and tips for communicating with your loved one about intimacy issues, among others.
