ATTENTION LAM ADVOCATES: We need your help!

ATTENTION LAM ADVOCATES:

As you may remember, back in March we asked for your help with promoting the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program during our Virtual March on the Hill advocacy program.   This bill was passed by the House of Representatives but is experiencing some push back from the Senate.

The Senate is scheduled to debate the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2017 (S. 2943), which includes two provisions that would significantly restrict and possibly even eliminate funding for the medical research programs conducted by the Department of Defense (DoD), including research funded by the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP).

Senator Richard Durbin has put forth an amendment to strike those two provisions. We need your help in supporting him and supporting the research funding put forth through the TSCRP.

Please consider calling both your Senators and urging them to support Senator Durbin’s amendment SA4369 that would strip these sections from the underlying bill and rally your local communities to do the same.  The D.C. phone numbers for your two senators can be found at ContactingtheCongress.org.

Below is a sample script you can use when making your phone call:

"I am calling to ask Senator XXX to co-sponsor and support Senator Durbin's amendment SA4369 to withdraw Sections 756 and 898 of S. 2943 that would harm research funding within the Department of Defense. I oppose any and all sections of the fiscal year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act that would prohibit funding for medical research at the Department of Defense (DoD).

TELL PERSONAL STORY (As a person diagnosed with LAM or a family member of a person with LAM)"

You can also email your Senators. If you have previously made contact with your Senator and have a direct email address, we have found that the response tends to be better than sending it through their website. Please consider using the text below to send your email:
