A Clinician Inspired by Connection

Bonnie Wang, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Michigan. For the past seven years, she has cared for people with lung disease and has become a strong supporter of the LAM community.

Dr. Wang’s interest in LAM grew from her passion for the connection between women’s health and lung disease. Her first LAMposium was a turning point. Seeing patients, clinicians, and researchers come together showed her the strength of the LAM community and the important role she could play.

“I realized I could make a meaningful impact,” Dr. Wang says. She is especially grateful to Dr. MeiLan Han, who mentored and trained her in caring for women with LAM.

Through The LAM Foundation, Dr. Wang has built connections with LAM experts from around the world and gained opportunities to learn directly from patients. Meeting patients at LAMposium has helped her better understand that LAM can affect each person differently and has strengthened her commitment to patient-centered care.

As a member of the Clinical Advisory Board (CAB), Dr. Wang brings her medical expertise while also making sure patient voices help shape clinical priorities. She values the opportunity to connect patient care, advocacy, and research.

Bonnie Wang, MD

What inspires her the most? The women living with LAM.

Dr. Wang is continually moved by their strength, curiosity, generosity, and commitment to one another. Despite living with a rare lung disease, they

continue to care for their families, work, stay active, and live full lives.

Their courage and sense of community remind Dr. Wang why this work matters, and why connection is so important to the LAM community.

Thank you to Dr. Wang for being one of the many people who makes The LAM Foundation special and worth celebrating on our Day of Giving.
