Grant Study Section (GSS) Patient Voice Committee

Volunteer Position Description

Purpose: 

The purpose of the Patient Voice Committee is to insert the patient voice and lived experience into the grant selection process.   

Target Membership: 

3 persons; LAM patients – US or international 

Estimated Time Commitment:  

25-30 hours per year 

Terms of Service:  

Committee members will serve up to a three-year term, with the opportunity to serve a second term if approved. Each year, we’ll conduct an evaluation of program needs, which may result in adjustments to the length of service.  

Responsibilities: 

Participate in 2 onboarding/training sessions.   

Review up to 8 grant proposals and provide feedback based on the provided rubrics and within the designated timeframe.   

Participate in an all-day grant study session review in the fall with other patient and scientific committee members, either in person or on Zoom.  Provide input on the patient perspective, share feedback, and any questions on the study being reviewed.  Cast a vote on whether a study should be funded.   

Participate in the post-GSS feedback session. 

Criteria for Applying: 

  • Be a person diagnosed with LAM in the US or international 
  • Be a participant in LAM Foundation activities, and/or advocacy or outreach in your local community 
  • Have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent 
  • Be fluent in reading, speaking, and writing English 
  • Have an interest in expanding your personal scientific knowledge about LAM 
  • Represent the views of the broader LAM community, not only a personal perspective 
  • Have basic computer skills and have access to a computer with an Internet connection 
  • Patients must be able to participate in meetings in real time
